Independent hotel guide

A stay worth considering in Orlando, Florida.

Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort aims to make value accommodation feel like a full holiday destination. Its bold mid-century architecture, sunny colors and sprawling recreation areas offer more personality than many conventional budget properties.

For families, the strongest combination is practical: standard rooms sleeping up to four or family suites sleeping up to six, two oversized pools, a lazy river and a waterslide. A ten-lane bowling alley adds a rainy-day option.

Important October 2026 update: Loews states that Universal Volcano Bay will close seasonally from October 26, 2026, with reopening expected on or before April 1, 2027. Cabana Bay’s own pools are different facilities; do not confuse hotel water features with Volcano Bay admission.

Architecture and atmosphere

Design and sense of place

The building’s outward-facing architecture evokes 1950s and 1960s Florida vacation culture. Curves, geometric patterns, lounge furniture and bright signs make it visually clear that this is a playful resort, not a formal luxury hotel.

Although the property uses nostalgic styling, it was built for modern family logistics. The kitchenette in family suites is a particularly valuable design choice when traveling with children.

Poolside rooms can create more holiday atmosphere but may also experience greater activity nearby. Confirm room position if daytime quiet is essential.

Accommodation

Rooms, layouts and what to check

Loews lists standard rooms for up to four guests and suites for up to six, with kitchenettes in the suites. Always match the reservation to your actual group size.

The type of stay matters more than a generic star rating. Compare bedding, view, occupancy and any kitchen or accessible-room details before confirming. Room categories and descriptions can change between booking seasons.

Food and daily rhythm

Dining choices

Bayliner Diner is a convenient food-court concept suited to irregular family mealtimes and differing preferences. Rather than planning a long restaurant evening every night, many guests eat quickly and return to the pools or parks.

Poolside snacks and bars provide another option. Bowling, special activities and certain drinks or dining experiences can carry additional charges.

Compare packages carefully: staying on Universal property does not automatically mean theme-park admission or every activity is included.

Rest and recreation

Pools, wellness and downtime

There are two oversized outdoor pools, a lazy river and a waterslide at Cabana Bay itself. They make the hotel a genuine water-play choice, even for families who plan an occasional day away from the theme parks.

The separate Volcano Bay water theme park has the seasonal closure announced for late October 2026. The walking route to that park will also be unavailable while the closure lasts, according to the hotel’s official notice.

The days beyond the room

Experiences and activities

Cabana Bay offers complimentary shuttle buses to Universal Orlando attractions, plus walking routes to some parts of the resort district. Confirm service and early-admission terms for the dates and tickets you purchase.

The on-site bowling alley is a strong option on wet afternoons; book ahead during peak family travel periods if reservations are offered.

Getting there

Location and local context

The hotel lies on Adventure Way within the Universal Orlando resort district. It is convenient for Universal parks and CityWalk, but not located at Walt Disney World.

Families attempting to cover both Universal and Disney should allow for road transfers between the two complexes and compare that cost when judging overall value.
